Bear Fruit: Who Am I?

September 29, 2019 Speaker: Joe Walser Series: Bear Fruit

Topic: Biblical Passage: Ephesians 1:1–1:13

When I forget who I am, I bear NO fruit.
 1. When you forget who you are, you operate from fear.
2 Kings 6:15 (ESV)
When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
2 Kings 6:17 (ESV)
Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
2. When you forget who you are, your life is unstable.
Ephesians 4:11–14 (ESV)
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
3. When you forget who your are, you gravitate toward externals that can bear no fruit.
Jeremiah 2:13 (ESV)
for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.
BEARING FRUIT
EPHESIANS: It’s all about WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST!
Ephesians 4:1 (ESV)
4 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,
Paul says you have forgotten who you are and you are walking (living) like who you were.
Adopted
Ephesians 1:5 (ESV)
he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
Redeemed
Ephesians 1:7 (ESV)
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Sealed
Ephesians 1:13 (ESV)
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
John 15:1–2 (ESV)
15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
John 15:5 (ESV)
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
