Nehemiah - God Rebuilds Us: Joy Filled Jesus

March 1, 2020 Speaker: Joe Walser Series: Nehemiah

Topic: Biblical Passage: Nehemiah 8:8–8:10

Revelation 21:1–3 (HCSB)
The New Creation
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea no longer existed. 2 I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look! God’s dwelling is with humanity, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.
Nehemiah 8:8–10 (HCSB)
They read out of the book of the law of God, translating and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was read. 9 Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law. 10 Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your strength/ stronghold.”
1. Our strength...our hope is built on HIS joy
Proverbs 18:10 (ESV)
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
“Following after God is the desire of happiness; to reach God is happiness itself. We participate in joy when we reach the essence of all joy: God himself.”
Augustine
1 Timothy 1:11 (ESV)
In accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
2. He delights in YOU!
Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)
For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
