Heart Of Worship: I Never Want This to Stop

April 19, 2020 Speaker: Joe Walser Series: Heart Of Worship

Topic: Biblical Passage: John 4:22–4:24

“With this ring I thee wed: with my body I thee worship: and with al my worldly goods I thee endow. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.”
Book of Common Prayer 1552
God wants us to worship Him. He doesn't need us, for He couldn't be a self-sufficient God and need anything or anybody, but He wants us. When Adam sinned it was not He who cried, "God, where art Thou?" It was God who cried, "Adam, where art thou?"
- A. W. Tozer
Psalm 95:6 (HCSB)
6 Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
Psalm 29:2 (HCSB)
2 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due His name; worship Yahweh in the splendor of His holiness.
Psalm 27:4 (HCSB)
4 I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking Him in His temple.
Romans 12:1 (HCSB)
Therefore (in light of the splendor of God’s glorious saving purposes), brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship.
DEFINE: Worship is the response of love to the extreme (superlative) beauty (glory) and value of God that is expressed in praise (adoration) and service (adoration and action).
End state Revelation 5:12–13 (HCSB)
12 They said with a loud voice: The Lamb who was slaughtered is worthy to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing! 13 I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say: Blessing and honor and glory and dominion to the One seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!
The purpose of God’s Community, the Church
John 4:22, 24 (HCSB)
22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
So what?
1. Worship (response of love) of God is our greatest joy and life’s focus of main effort!
2. Ruthless inventory of “sin sickness”...
