THE POWER OF THE RIGHT QUESTION
WHO IS GOD?
1. It is preeminent....it is the first and most important pursuit
John 17:3 (HCSB)This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent —Jesus Christ.
Jeremiah 9:23–24 (HCSB)Boast in the Lord
This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth. But the one who boasts should boast in this, that he understands and knows Me — that I am Yahweh, showing faithful love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord’s declaration.
Hosea 6:6 (HCSB)
For I desire loyalty and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
2. It is possible to know about but not KNOW God
John 14:9–11 (HCSB)Jesus said to him, “Have I been among you all this time without your knowing Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own. The Father who lives in Me does His works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe because of the works themselves.
3. It grants WISDOM
Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 9:10 (ESV)The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
4. It gives us strength to take action (worship leading to justice) 5. It gives us peace
Daniel 11:32 (ESV)
He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant, but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action.
2 Peter 1:2 (ESV)
May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
