Walking In The Light: Looking for love in all the wrong places

September 13, 2020 Speaker: Joe Walser Series: Walking In The Light

Topic: Biblical Passage: 1 John 2:15–2:17

1 John 1:1–4 (ESV, expanded)
That (Jesus, the one who loves us, the Christ...,the savior, the King, the Victor, the prince of peace, our hope and joy and way to God who loves us) which was from the beginning, which we (the apostles) have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life (Jesus the KING, by His love, conquered sin and death....a King who leads the captives to freedom because of His love)—that one... which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
This love drives out fear....
1 John 4:18 (ESV)
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
This love drives out sin....
1 John 2:1 (ESV)
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
This love completes our joy.... (Jesus Joy, We joy...)
1 John 1:4 (ESV)
And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

1 John 2:15–17 (ESV)
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Don’t love the world
Love World Jacked
Don’t love the world
“If I love the world, I am jacked.”
LOVE
•Value
 John 12:43 (ESV)
for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
• Desire
 John 3:19 (ESV)
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
• Action
 Romans 5:8 (ESV)
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
“If I love the world, I am jacked.”
WORLD
• a system ruled by Satan and his allies accompanied by all their counter kingdom glories and purposes that stand against the purposes and glory of God in all things and in particular the person and work of the CHRIST (antichrists)
2 Corinthians 4:4 (ESV)
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
James 4:3–4 (ESV)
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
“If I love the world, I am jacked.”
JACKED
• Something dead to roll in (desires of the flesh)
• Sweet poison (the lust of the eyes)
money, power, fame, relationships, possessions and sex— especially sex—are what C.S. Lewis referred to as the “sweet poison of the false infinite.” These are what we might call substitute sacreds —the surrogates we desperately use to fill the emptiness of our dissatisfied lives.
Ray Noah
• Crazy Love (the boastful pride of life)
So What?
1. You live in a broken and deceitfully wicked world
2. You sin because you love the world
3. You are at war with an the enemy/enemies of God
4. You live in an alternate universe
